MICHAEL & THE EARTH STORIES:  Michael’s sense of care and respect towards our EARTH runs deep.  His earliest memories are of the magic of being outdoors, gathering the fragrant cones under a great pine tree. From his elementary school days in the 1960’s and 70’s, Michael felt connected to the environmental movement .  In his early adulthood, Michael visited Native American reservations in over 10 states, appreciating the people, the arts, the dances, the rituals, and the sense of the sacred that he encountered.  While we may associate “Mother Earth” language with the Native American Indian peoples, Michael has learned that his own blood ancestors, the Celts and the Slavs, also knew the EARTH as our Mother.  In fact, the ideal of Mother Earth is found among almost all peoples across the globe.  

As an ecological storyteller, O’Malley draws from the wealth of folk stories and literary tales, while also sharing original stories, from around the world that recognize the EARTH as sacred; that invite us into stewardship of the EARTH; that highlight our depth of relationship with the animals, trees, and soil; and that inspire us as members of the Earthen Family.
