Michael the Irish Storyteller
Michael O’Malley loves to share stories from his IRISH and Celtic heritage. Whether sharing romantic legends, tales of the fairy faith, Celtic mythical lore, or his own family’s emigration story, Michael the Irish Storyteller breathes life into the tales of the Emerald Isle.
Jim Griffin, a long-time listener to Michael’s IRISH tales, says,
“I like living where I do and when I do, but whenever I read stories about the ancient Celts, the one thing I always envy them is there access to the bards. I know we don’t have bards anymore, but Michael gets as close as I have seen or heard.”

MICHAEL & THE IRISH STORIES: The IRISH are known as storytellers and Michael O’Malley is no exception. Michael has always felt a deep connection to his IRISH ancestors. All four of his paternal great-grandparents came from Ireland. He is the youngest child of the youngest child of the youngest child of IRISH immigrants. When Michael stepped onto Ireland in 1987, he was the first of his family to touch the Emerald Isle since his great-grandparents had departed in the 1800’s. At that time, Michael spent three months in Ireland, working at a homeless shelter in Cork.
More recently, in 2004, Michael the Storyteller returned to Ireland once again. This time, Michael visited the sites of many of the IRISH stories that he tells – exploring the special caves and castles, the specific fields and villages of the tales – and adding richness and depth to his IRISH storytelling programs. On this trip, Michael Kasony-O’Malley also met and spent time with Michael Rowland, the illustrator who collaborated with him on the book, An Irish Tale: Tom Moore and the Seal Woman.
Michael shares the wit and wisdom of his own families lore, the magic and heartache of IRISH romance, the enchantments of “the Good People,” and the mystery of Celtic myth and ritual. Michael the Irish Storyteller brings the tales to life. As the IRISH newspaper The Avondhu said, “Kasony-O’Malley breathes fire into the old Irish legends…The Tom Moore story is told so well that you can almost hear the sound of the sea crashing onto the rocks.”
Michael O’Malley invites us into wonder and enchantment, magic and merriment, in concert with the Celtic ancestors, through the power of the tale well told.
