TRADITION! We hear it at the beginning of Fiddler on the Roof and while Michael is not Jewish, his close friends and family often comment that the opening scene from Fiddler laughingly reminds them of Michael. Those who know him know that Michael has a great love of TRADITION!

MORE ABOUT MICHAEL AND TRADITION: Michael expresses his love of TRADITION through his work as a public speaker, writer, storyteller, parson, and educator. Michael embraces his deep roots in the Youngstown, Ohio area – including his blue-collar background, his Slovak & Irish ethnic heritage, and the family stories & lore that he and his relatives continue to celebrate and enjoy. Tradition is not separate from Culture and Lore.

TRADITION is, of course, linked to our ancestors. For better or worse (!), we are the direct continuation of our Blood Ancestors within our familial lineage. The Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh (aka Thay) speaks of these connections with our Blood Ancestors and Thay also speaks of the importance of our Spirit & Land Ancestors. Our Spirit Ancestors include spiritual teachers, caring mentors from our youth, and/or novelists, painters, or poets whose art has touched us in beneficial ways.

Thich Nhat Hanh also recognizes that we are more than spiritual or thinking beings. We are flesh, blood, bones embodied here on Earth. Our Land Ancestors include the indigenous peoples of our land, along with all the other peoples who have shared our land – and not just people, but also the minerals, plant life, and animals of the land. They are ALL our Land Ancestors. Tradition is never separate from Spirt and Ecology.
